Opening Our Doors
When the temperature is below 25 degrees for 4 to 5 hours on a given day, we invite our homeless guests to the Mt. Bethel UMC campus. Mt. Bethel makes announcements via this website and Twitter.
What do we do?
- Cook, bring, serve, and clean up meals.
- Set up and take down bedding.
- Set up, distribute, and take down clothing.
- Drive buses to pick up our guests.
- Wash laundry.
- Host meals and overnight.
7 Bridges to Recovery and the Garden (Our Local Partner)
What do we do at the Garden?
- Serve meals each night at 6pm.
- Lead or join in worship at 5pm each night.
- Join work groups for construction and handyman activities.
- Read to the children.
- Lead devotions or craft activities.
- Prepare lunches to hand out under the bridges.
- Donate food, clothing, and daily living/personal hygiene items.
During the week, we have a number of ways to serve the homeless women and children of the Garden.
Tuesdays “Under the Bridges”
What do we do under the bridges?
On the 2nd and 4th Tuesday each month, we visit our homeless friends where they live and provide water, food, fellowship, and prayer. We partner with 7 Bridges to Recovery and The Garden. We meet in the parking lot at Mt. Bethel UMC at 4pm to board the church bus and to drive to The Garden, where we meet our 7 Bridges Team.
Please bring your own money for dinner; there’s an optional 6:30pm start time if you don’t want to eat dinner.
After dinner, the 7 Bridges Team leads the church bus to different spots in downtown Atlanta where the homeless people live. Groups generally return to Mt. Bethel around 9:30pm.
This service opportunity is great for families and groups. Feel free to bring socks, tee shirts, underwear, gloves, stocking caps, etc to hand out. And please wear comfortable shoes. Each evening is limited to 14 participants.

What do we do?
- Provide counseling for “Planning for Success” class each Wednesday night, 7:50-9pm.
- Serve Dinner 5th and 12th each month.
- Conduct a Christmas Toy Drive.
- Sort, stock the pantry, and distribute food.
- Lead devotionals.
- Cook and serve holiday meals.
- Work at Gobble-Jog fun-run on Thanksgiving Day.
- Donate food, clothing, and personal hygiene items.
SafeHouse Outreach
What do we do?
- Serve Dinner the 2nd Thursday of each month.
- Lead devotionals.
- Cook and serve holiday meals.
ACSS
What do we do?
- Attend Center graduation.
- Serve 4th of July meal.
- Serve at annual Christmas Celebration.
- Donate ”Dress for Success” interview clothing.
